    I'm looking for a 500GB+ 7mm SSD for an X220 tablet.

client bought an X220 tablet to replace his aging HP tablet...but little did I realize that upgrading the HDD would be more difficult than anticipated. my bad for not doing the research.

in any case, his HP had a 500GB HDD that's jam packed, so we need to upgrade the unit to a 500GB or larger HDD or SSD that meets the 7mm thick requirement. I'm on the hunt for a Hitachi drive that's out there, but I was hoping (money is no object) for an SSD to recommend him.

it's probably nothing like this in production...but never hurts to ask. is there such a beast? Thanks!

There's the Intel 320 600GB SSD (I've got one :D ) and, while it may come as a 9.5mm thick unit, it't a simple matter of removing 4 screws to take off the cover, removing the plastic spacer and then replacing the cover (to be fixed by 4 shorter screws). Mine lives in my T420s without any of the modifications discussed in another thread to squeeze 9.5mm drives into 7mm bays.

500GB single platter (ie 7mm thick) HDDs also exist. The Intel 320 represents a big price premium for a little more capacity but it will also transform the performance.

Also look into creating a compressed partition to squeeze some of the older stuff to take less space.

You could get him a 80gb msata sdd and a 7mm 500gb hdd. Another route you could try is to get the ultrabase for that sucker and put a hdd on that thing.
