two issues here; i noticed over the past few days that my t420 woke itself out of screensaver mode unprompted, but ignored it. then last night i left the cursor over the play/pause button on my media player and realized that the touchpad randomly clicks itself, because the music began starting and stopping on its own. i've tried lowering the sensitivity in the synaptics utility thing but it still happens. it's also made me accidentally click things i haven't meant to - earlier it went into meltdown and was rapidly clicking itself as i moved the cursor
i don't want to have to disable tapping altogether.

also, the tap to click function on my trackpoint just doesn't work at all

Have you tried to re-install drivers, update drivers/rollback drivers?
It might as well be faulty keyboad, had similar issues on my T410 and keyboard replacement solved the issue :)
