I love not having to move hand when coding. However, I do a lot of analysis with matlab; while a regular usb microsoft wheel mouse works fine in the matlab editor, the scroll function on thinkpad / touchpad doesn't. Any ideas or workarounds?

Make sure in the synaptics driver settings, that scrolling is set to area under pointer, and not selected text.
