i just got my replacement keyboard and i wanted to switch to my old trackpoint cover and save the new one for the future but i'm not sure if i did it correctly. when i pulled it off, only the rubber portion came off, on my old trackpoint there was also a plastic support that comes off with the trackpoint cover. on the keyboard, there is still a gray plastic, is that the support that was supposed to come off with the trackpoint? any idea how to get it off? i have some pictures to show the comparison. link. i hope i didn't break it.

No that doesn't look right. Are you able to pull that black piece of plastic out of the old trackpoing cap and reattach it to the keyboard?

If not you have to buy a new keyboard. If your still under warranty it might be covered.

If you ever need more trackpoint caps I recommend you check these guys out, suntekstore.com. I ordered from them, just don't choose the option to purchase through paypal as a guest account, setup you own paypal account and use that, they weren't able to confirm my payment when I chose paypal guest account. Took quite a few emails to get it settled.

so you're saying the one with the black piece of plastic is the wrong looking one? the one WITHOUT the black plastic is the new one that i pulled off of my new keyboard and the gray plastic was under it. so then there is probably nothing wrong with my new keyboard then?

The TrackPoint tips should come off without pulling off the square black plastic nub with it. It's never been an issue for me on my T500, but I every once in a while the black square comes off my X120e's TrackPoint. It's a simple matter to pull the black square out of the red TrackPoint tip and put it right back, though.

Oh I see, the trackpoint cap with the black palstic bit came off the old keyboard. And you also have a new keyboard.

Yes, it looks like your new keyboard is fine, and the old one might now be brocken, I'm not sure though. To my knowledge that black plastic bit is not supposed to come off.

thanks that clears it up then. but how come the cap is much looser now. when i pulled it off initially, there was some resistance but now when i put the cap back on it just seems to slide right off when i take it off
