my trackpoint has stopped working. as soon as i press it in any direction, it goes mad and shoots straight up or down, it is as if it is trying to re-configure EVERYTIME i press it. there is no options anywhere in windows 2000 control panel section or the mouse section that would enable any options that could help. i have now put in a normal mouse which is generally okay but i would like to get the trackpoint working.

Classic sign of a bad keyboard. Replace it.
