check your manual for supported devices for your computer and keep the one that is on the list.

actually I'm not sure whether I should keep the T400s or go for the T410..
same res, t400s with intel though (the other is nvidia)
otherwise more or less the same.

actually the t410 has 9cell, which makes it bulkier.
    but the again, its faster.

The Toshiba has a lot faster sequential and 512K speeds, but both have terrible random read and especially random write speeds (what really matters). Get something like an X18-M.

Thanks.. I'll keep the toshiba then.

    I had a x25-m.. 80gb tho', won't fit in the t400s.

I have that Toshiba SSD. After about a year it slowed down to a crawl. Probably because of the jmicron controller I dont know. I called lenovo for warranty. The laptop is currently with them.

Also there is no TRIM support in Windows 7

no trim = slower over time.

did they replace it with the same model ? i think the samsung one is indeed a bit slower (and older i think).

    brr.

Uhh...there is TRIM support in 7.

And there was other ways to GC before Windows 7.

Bad wording on my part. The toshiba drive doesnt have Trim support. (Because of firmware to my understanding but the drive CAN support it) It also has built in garbage collection from what I understand. But it also has a modified Jmicron controller.

Let me also say the drive was fine for my day to day work for about 7 months. But now I am experiancing slowness with the drive. Espiecaially with VM's. I called Lenovo warranty two days ago for this and just sent in my T410 this morning. So I dont know what they will do.

Somwhere in the T410 owners lounge I tried do that the secure erase thing. But I couldnt get the drive in a unfrozen state.

Here is the review of the Toshiba drive. Lenovo (Toshiba OEM) THNS128GG4BAAA 128GB Solid State Drive :: TweakTown USA Edition

The Samsung drive (i dont know if its the same model as listed above) got an update for trim through firmware.

EDIT: I found the thread that discusses the firmware update update. It is for the SSD mentioned above http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T5...-for-the-128-GB-Samsung-SSD/m-p/237421#M27667

I've had an X200 Tablet and X301 with the OEM ssd's. All the Lenovo OEM ssd's from that period suck balls compared to my Samsung 470. Maybe the current ones are better, but why even bother when Intel, Crucial, Kingston, etc make good 1.8" drives.

TRIM has no direct effect on performance. Only later down the road but you could do a secure erase and gain back your performance.
