The intel turbo memory hard drive cache and the system expansion slots (pc card slot, express card slot, media card slot and smart card slot), what are these two?

Also wifi: which one should i get? Is the N still pre-N? Do you think it's going to become the standard in a year or so?

Finally, the WWAN: who uses it? Is that also going to be a common and necessary feature in a year or so?

I would get the turbo memory

I would get both the PC card slot and the express card slot. You can always purchase an express card multi-media card reader on your own.

All wifi cards right now are pre-N.

WWAN allows you to connect to the net through your cell service provider. But expect to pay a hefty amount for that privilege.

Thanks but the question was WHAT IS a turbo memory, what are pc card and express card slots, whether pre-N is used commonly right now (or will it be in the very near future).

    Intel Turbo Memory: http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/turbomemory/index.htm

PC card slot: tried and true PCMCIA card slot
Express card slot: smaller and newer version of the above
Media card slot: reads SD cards, MMC cards, Memory Stick, etc.
Smart card slot: a credit card sized thing that you plug in to use the computer. Used as a security device.

802.11n will be in the draft stage until around 2009. Whether or not people use it is anyone's guess. The n card you get in the T61 is also an a/b/g card, so you'll be fine. I would pony up the ~$30 to get it.

BTW, all of these answers were found by doing a google search. Good luck.

K thanks. Does the intel turbo memory drain the battery faster?

I would think that it wouldn't since accessing a flash drive uses less power than accessing a mechanical hard drive. It's a pretty cool technology, but seems like a stop-gap solution until flash hard drives become cheap enough to be mainstream. Dell sells a 32GB flash hard drive for over $400, which is way expensive for only 32GB...but it is solid state! In either case, I think the 1GB turbo memory is worth the $50 asking price.
