The U330 seems to be gone from Lenovo's Canadian website. Any one have any ideas if it is coming back?

Reports here on the forum say that the U330 is getting a refresh soon, so it'll most likely come back.

Thanks. That is sort of interesting how they take down all the links to it from their site for a refresh.

It just came back on the US website the other day.. but nothing notable as far as it's configuration. Guessing it'll be back on the Canadian website shortly with the same specs...

I'm not sure. It is so odd that its not on the Canadian website.

I've started looking at the u80 from ASUS and the new dell 14z instead of the U330 now.

I have been checking these Ideapads in Lenovo Canadian website over a month now and there has been only S-series.
I guess Lenovo Canada has much reduced selection.

A-power in Canada has a pretty good selection of U- and Y-series as well as almost 100 of Thinkpads.

But it lacks the superb discount of Lenovo webstore.

Can I buy a computer in a US electronic shop with a Canadian credit card?
I am willing to drive down to Seattle since I live in Vancouver.

Why don't you just order a brand new one on eBay? It's the same thing except you don't pay taxes and it was shipped to someones place before being resold internationally specifically for people like you.

It is just my personal thing.
I had many bad experience with ebay and try to avoid it.
As I posted above, I found a good seller here in Vancouver.
What I miss is the spectacular discount of Lenovo Webstore.

Does anyone know how much duty and tax I have to pay when shipping a PC from US?

on eBay you pay none ;)

    Otherwise:

    a. Ask the seller/store to declare the item as a gift.

    b. Ship with UPS Express, duties will be lumped into one. Taxes will be applied as normal, either at checkout or at your door.

    c. standard rate shipping, you pay duties and brokerage fees in addition to taxes.

To avoid b. & c. use eBay.... seriously.

If you're interested, there are some Canadian online stores you can grab it from:

    http://www.shopbot.ca/default.asp?kw=ideapad+u330&position=search
    http://www.pricebat.ca/search.php?q...f=FORID:11&ie=UTF-8&search.x=0&search.y=0#765

I personally agree with you in that I would not buy a laptop from ebay.. It just seems like it could create unforeseen problems with warranty or other things. I only buy things on ebay if I know that the risks of receiving a defective product are really low, like printer toner or some cables or peripherals, etc.

Some people may disagree with me but that's just my comfort zone, so you're not the only one :)

As for taxes at the border, you will be charged GST/PST when you receive the package.

Lenovo US website doesn't ship to Canada, the credit card billing address has to match the shipping address or the order won't go through.
Luckily for me, the company I work for has a US brokerage affiliate in NY so I was able to get it forwarded (including the bill) using their address. Since my purchase was put in the same skid as a whole bunch of other stuff destined to Canada, I paid a small portion of the brokerage and duty for the entire skid, which worked out to be around $15.
Had my u330 since last Oct and aside from one of the rubber spacers falling out, its been flawless.
All in all, it was risky because there were lots of people who had faulty LCD's in their early batch of units and sending it back for repair would have been a huge pain.
If you are totally set on getting one and the risk is acceptable, go for it. I don't regret my purchase at all, tho I was super lucky.
