So I read another post about disable Secure Boot in BIOS and I did get the new BIOS to install. But now cannot get Secure Boot Status to be On. It's grayed out and cannot select it. I can enable/disable Secure Boot but has no effect on Status...

Do I have to choose one of the Reset to Setup? or Restore Factory Keys?
Do I even need Secure Boot Status to be On? Why?

Do a restore optimised defaults, then reboot into bios and reset all your settings. Make sure boot mode is UEFI.

Do you mean OS Optimized Defaults on the exit BIOS page? Tried- didn't help.
    or
Do you mean Load Default Settings on the exit BIOS page?
    or
Do you mean Restore Factory Keys on the secure boot page of BIOS?

It almost appears that I should do Load Default Settings on the exit page- a little scary...
Or maybe the Restore Factory Keys (Restore all secure boot database to factory default including PK, KEK, db, and dbx)- really scary...

I just checked mine. that particular option is also greyed out. I can select UEFI, Legacy and Secure Boot on or off as I choose and all work normally. I would not worry about it

Before I disabled the Secure Boot option, the Secure Boot Status was enabled.

It does not appear to affect using my laptop. So what exactly does it do? Why was it enabled before? What happens if I can't get it back to enabled?

It could just be a one-time-set bios flag to indicate if you have ever booted a non-authorised OS on the machine. It certainly would not invalidate any warranty claims (I doubt they would even look)

SOLVED my secure boot status problem. It is now enabled. Simply pressing enter on the "Reset to Setup Mode" and "Restore Factory Keys" options, saving and exiting was the fix.

the last time I used a bios option like "restore factory keys" was on a 2013 HP envy, which then wiped the bios code for windows 8.1

never figured out how to get it back, and didn't find out till I did a reinstall. I steer well clear of options like that now
