    hello!

i wanted to ask if i can upgrade my old Thinkpad with that new Intel 5350?
i have cheap WiMax carrier available here and would like to use it - without buying a new laptop.

so is this possible? or is there more necessary then just the new card, like different antennas for example.

    thanks!

The number of antennas available, is determined by the screen used in your Thinkpad (I have no idea in regards to what and how many antennas Wimax requires).

Thinkpad BIOSes feature a deny/allow list in regards to permitted Wireless PCI-Express cards. If the Intel 5350 is not available as an upgrade or addon from Lenovo for your Thinkpad model, it is highly likely that it will not work, regardless if you have the required antennas or not.

    ok, thank you.

i have 3 antennas and i think i saw on pics the 5350 also seems to use 3.

hmm ok - still thinking about weather to upgrade to a new laptop. either vaio-z or a lenovo again. but the lenovo configurations offered in germany are really not fitting what i want (especially im keen on wimax really).
i would like a t400 with 2.8ghz, wimax and no webcam - none of it available here  (not even the cpu, max 2.5 WHY???)

the x301 is too expensive for what it offers - so compared to thisone the vaio-z is better choice for me. but again here not clear if i could upgrade to the intel 5350...

guess ill search a bit on or wait for other lenovo options to become available here.
