I currently own a t43 and soon hopefully a x200s. As we know, the x200s has no optical drive and the t43 has a removable usb optical drive placed in the ultrabay.

I was wondering if I can use the ultrabay optical drive of the t43 as a usb powered external otpical drive for the x200s. Do i need an external envelope/enclosure/case? if so, is it purchasable form lenovo?

I plan to use this drive via WIFI. However sometimes one needs booting from a dvd. I suppose that it is not possible to boot from a shared dvd drive via network (wifi or cable). Am i right?

    What do you think?

I think you're going to have a hard time finding a case for it. Perhaps someone else knows better than I.

It's definitely possible to do this.

I use this $12 enclosure for a DVD±RW pulled from an Acer for my x200 Tablet. It works very well and is powered by 2 USB (no AC adapter required).

However, the T43 uses a 10.5mm slim drive as opposed to the 13mm drives in cheaper laptops. So you may need to find a different enclosure.

I saw an Ultrabay to USB adapter before, however it was not an enclosure (just a bare adapter), and is therefore less than ideal.

I don't know of any enclosures that would fit the slim 9.5mm T series drives. Plus you got the notch in the corner.
