Hi all, just wondering if you could give any thoughts to the following. The T43 I ordered should be at my house within the next 5 days as my credit card was charged last Monday. It's model # 2686DGU with a free upgrade to 3 Years On-site Warranty Service. I was checking the Lenovo (Canada) site, and saw a manger's special, which would give me basically the same configuration except the following would be "better", 2 Mhz vs 1.86 Mhz processor, 80GB 54000rpm vs 60GB 7200rpm HD, and it would be approx $75(Cdn) cheaper. I don't mind the waiting time if I do return my order. But I have the following questions:

-Under heavy use, how much faster will the 2 Mhz CPU be? (assume 1GB of RAM in the notebook)
-Does the faster CPU generate much more heat?
-Will I notice significant drop in hard drive performance from a 5400rpm vs 7200rpm HD? (the 20GB extra storage is nice)
-I still would have a 3 yr warranty, just not on site, is this a big deal?
-What is the return policy, will I have to pay for the return shipping? (This order is in Canada)

    Thanks for reading,

    -Paul

Overall, I don't think it will make that much difference...
The difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm is most seen in the loading time.
And the processor. To say it this way, you'll get relatively less 'profit' from a change from 1,86GHz to 2GHz then you will have from a change from 1,73GHz to 1,86GHz. This is what I can conclude from the benchmarks I've seen.

    Hi,

I ordered a T43 DGU in Canada as well, and I have received my additional 512 RAM this friday. So my DGU should be home next monday.

To your questions, I think you should keep the DGU, I don't believe there will be much performance jump as you switch from 750 to 760 CPU.

I like the 7200rpm HD anyway, that's important to me.

Unless you need the space, I'd stick with what you got.

Hi Paul, I cannot find the manager's special deal you mentioned. Do you mind posting a link here? Thanks!
