2 days ago i got the yellow balloon on my windows tray saying that i have some updates
after installing the updates i rebooted then i got the attached blue screen
i googled and got this as first hit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302
i did not install new hardware
i went to bios and found that for some reason the display was set to PCI so i changed it back to AGP yet it boots and shows the attached blue screen
when i boot into command prompt while loading the drivers it reaches AGP440.sys right after it it shows the blue screen so i think it has something todo with the VGA card driver?
please advise
thank you

From the link you posted, have you tried the recommended resolution? I don't think its the video driver because it wouldn't prevent Windows from booting - it would revert to the standard VGA driver.

yeah i tried it does not boot
the funny think the laptop has dual boot and its booting fine on ubuntu
i think the drive is damaged and has nothing todo with the windows update... -
Try using System Restore to bring Windows back to a state before the updates. That should fix the problem.

it doesn't even boot so i can do system restore ?

Unfortunately I don't think that there is much else you can do, apart from somehow trying to copy a new version of AGP110.sys to the drive and booting again. Have you tried booting Windows in Safe mode?

Boot with a XP CD (or get somewhere the 6 diskettes to boot the XP install)
Type R to go to the recovery console
in C prompt type:
chkdsk /p
wait
then when finished type
fixboot
type
exit
the machine automatically reboots
if it still doesn't want to access Windows
again do the same, but in the first step instead of writing chkdsk /p
you type
chkdsk /r
hope this works. -
I just had the same error on my T61 (Vista Bus 64) last night, right after an auto-update. Mine booted into ubuntu fine also, but if I tried Vista, I always got that blue screen.
The way I ended up fixing it was booting to a Vista x64 RC1 disk (since it was the newest Vista "disk" that I had, seeing as Lenovo doesn't exactly give you one) and picking the "Repair" option. It rebooted and has worked fine since. -
thanks guys, i think my best option is to locate windows XP CD to fix the issue
