    Which ThinkPad do you have?

There are two manufacturers of fingerprint readers for current ThinkPads -- UPEK and AuthenTec. Check which vendor yours is made by and make sure you downloaded the correct software. If you're not sure which, install ThinkVantage System Update, and use it to get your drivers.

My Authentec FP reader works fine under Windows 7, so I'm guessing you may have just installed the wrong software for your reader.

AFAIK all T400 should have authentec sensors.

Go to device manager and uninstall the Biometric devices driver. Then, do a scan for hardware changes. If windows starts to get drivers from Windows Update, stop them and then either do a repair or reinstall the Lenovo fingerprint software. Reboot the system and check if it recognizes the sensor. Thats what i did on my T400 for LFS to recognize the sensor.

P.S: If you have the authentec truecrypt software uninstall that as well before trying to install LFS.
