Either way, you'll end up being nagged about updates, regardless if you perform them in the Lenovo software or Windows Update once you reinstall Windows.

I'm already done with the installation and updated my computer, only left with the above to worry about.

Well, if it were my computer, I'd just download/install the hardware drivers and OS drivers (so... Intel and Windows stuff). The Lenovo stuff is just extras that you may or may not use.

I would never have installed Lenovo System Update to start with. :D

Really? I always found that not installing the Lenovo drivers/updates made the computing experience pretty bad on a Lenovo. The first order of business for me was to always install all Lenovo updates. It just made everything work better, IMO.

    Am I alone here?

Personally, I just use Windows Update, and never had any issues. The only Lenovo software I still keep is the fingerprint software and power manager.

It's a preference thing, for anyone who is new to the ThinkPad line or isn't really tech minded but wanted the job done then I would recommend using the Lenovo System Update application as it does make the job easier on a freshly installed system. But there are those who's a bit old skool and prefer installing missing drivers and software manually, I'm one of them simply because I'm awkward. :)

No mainly because using the INF files from the drivers and the Device Manager can in occasion allow you to install the basic drivers without the need of front end software which can save additional system resources, especially if you don't use it at all to start with. The only Lenovo software I use are the Power Manager and Hot Keys, I generally find the Windows utility for things like the Wireless are more than adequate in my needs.

I haven't used Lenovo Software Update in more than seven years. I am accustomed to building my own custom images.

Nope. I usually install most of the Lenovo drivers (excluding stuff I know I won't be using, ie Intel AMT), although I deselect a lot of the Lenovo software (I pretty much only use Power Manager and System Update, and also Active Protection System on setups with a HDD).

    Nice pic!

    I 1st do Win7 updates from Microsoft.

After reboot, I then load Lenovo Solution Center, and Lenovo System Update, and Thinkpad Power Manager.

After reboot, I let System Update check what's still missing and load all of it.

I mean, why spend time doing it manually???

Lenovo System Update is better and faster at this than you or I are.
