    Hi all,

I just upgraded my HD+ screen with a FHD (B156HW01 V.4 from laptopscreen.com. I spent several weeks to search for this genuine part and finally decided to buy from the site.) on my W530. I want to share my experience here(It took me around one hour to replace it):
    001.jpg

    Steps to replace the screen:
    0. tools used in this work: stanley 1.4mm flat screwdriver and ph1 screwdriver.

    1. turn off computer and remove battery.

    2. using a small flat screw driver to take off the three black square stickers just under the screen. I used a stanley 1.4mm flat screw driver in my case.

    3. unscrew the three screws under these stickers using the ph1 screwdriver.

    4. gently pry the plastic screen frame from bottom to side and to the top. use your *hand* and be gentle!

    5. unscrew upper left and right and bottom left and right screws using the ph1 screwdriver. you can put a roll of paper towel to prevent the lid from dropping to the table.

    6. undo two screws (fixing little metal frame and the screen) on each side using ph1. caution: you must *hold the screen* when you undo the screws.

    7. *gently* put the screen to the keyboard with screen face down.

    8. use your finger nail, *gently* remove the clear sticker which holds the cable to its position.

    9. use your finger nail to remove the lvds cable, *gently*, and remember, there is a double side sticker between the lvds cable and the screen, make sure to remove it also.

    10. replace your screen with *exactly* reverse order.

For those who want to get a B156HW01 V.4 screen, I got it from here:

Congratulations! It was fun, wasn't it?

Yea, those are the tricky parts. (Grow your nails if you plan to do this upgrade. :D)

BTW, for genuine (not "compatible") AUO B156HW01 V.4 panel in North America, that's the site to visit.

What was the motivation for changing the screen on a brand new machine?

Maybe the new owner realized that HD+ was a mistake.

Maybe HD+ was a "free upgrade" and the owner knew it would be less expensive to do the FHD upgrade him/herself. (I have done this upgrade a few times for friends who purchased T510's with HD for low prices.)

Maybe, but saving $100 and voiding the warranty isn't a savings. A return and re-purchase during the 21 days from the time the unit shipped might have been a better long term investment.

FYI, just spoke to Phil in Canadian Lenovo support,
and he told me that "modifications will not void warranty on our products", specifically I asked if I were to upgrade the HD panel to 1080p panel.
He said "as long as no further problems stem from the screen installation, your warranty will not be void. Of course you will be charged for a stock screen if that needs to be replaced/put back in per your request later on"

Would be interesting if anybody gets a different answer

Does anyone know if it would be possible to upgrade the screen of the T430? Or T530?

T530? Same procedure. For the 15.6" FHD screen, the exact part number is known: B156HW01 V.4. This can still be ordered (see the first post).
