hey... i just bought a new samsung 128gb ssd for my x300. The big question is, what is the best way to upgrade?

should i create a backup on an external drive using thinkvantage, replace the hard drives and then restore the image?

any other recommendations? i only have the restore cds that come with the laptop package.

    thanks

I would just do an image copy onto the new drive from the old one. Create an image of the drive onto external, then install the new drive and restore.

It shouldn't, even if you do a 1:1 copy and only format and copy to 64gb of the 128gb you can always extend out the drive to fill the remaining 64gb that is not partitioned.

Depends on the program you use. Some will just restore as if it was a 64GB drive, in which case, you would use disk management to Extend Volume. Some programs will give you the option to extend the partition as you restore so you don't need to do the aforementioned.

If you have the time I'd probably do either a clean install or a factory restore and rebuild from there. A bit of spring cleaning is often nice for Windows.
