    hi,
i just upgraded my thinkpag t61p from t7700 to x7900...
everything is working fine no temp problems, now im trying to overclock to cpu, it has an free multipler, but the software (CrystalCPUID414) says 14x is the laste one i could set...
is this because there is no bios setting for setup the cpu or is the cpu not really ratio free? i can set every ratio under 14 but higher im not able...

    can someone help me?

or is there a unoffical bios for the t61p with overclock settings?

The CPU has limitations. On top of it, I'm surprised you can even change the multiplier as usually it requires BIOS support.

Just because it is unlocked does not mean it is unlimited. It means you are free to change it within the allowed range.

Thats not right the Core2Duo Extreme Editions have a unlocked multipler, all of the XPS M1730 can clock it at 17 x 200 ~ 3,4 Ghz in BIOS but I havent any options to overclock in BIOS... Therefore I used RMClock, but I can just Setup the multiplers used under 14x (6-14), this multiplers you can use on every C2D Cpu because they were used by the system to save energy...
In my case I dont know if really my cpu is locked or I cant just adjust it because the BIOS doesnt support it...

Are there instructions out there on how to do this? I am interested, but am not sure how? I have the 7700 and would like to upgrade. Also, any chance at upgrading the video card? I have the 570m and I am unable to play blu-ray on my computer due to the card. Thanks.

After a few weeks there is no problems with the x7900 @ t61p (replaced a t7700), i just didnt found a way to overclock the cpu...

Is there noone who knows if overclocking with rmclock is able when the bios doesnt have the overclocking menu? maybe the mainboard of my t61p only support multipler till 14?

Hi there! I also am interested in upgrading my T7700 in my T61p to an X7900. I am wondering, how is it coming for you? Do you still not have any issues?

How are your temps at idle or under load - does you fan need to run more than it did before?

Did you need to under-volt the X7900 or was it really a drop-in replacement?

    Thank You.

Now its running for more then 4 months, no issues...
Its really a dropinn replacement and the temp is around 50°c.
When Im undervolting the cpu and let the fan running on highest level the cpu temp is 32°C (2,8GHz)...
You see there is enough cooling to overclock the cpu, but i cant do it without the bios options...

    Hi, thanks for the info.

When you are undervolting, what method do you use? Something like RMClock or a different utility?

I was actually thinking of putting in an X9000 CPU but apparently my motherboard does not fully support the Penryn core so X7900 is still my best bet...

    Cheers...
