As many others in htis forum, I'm buying by R61 with 512mb of ram and upgrading to 2GB by buying 2 sticks.

However, I've never opened up or upgraded a laptop before, let alone any memory on anything. So I have no clue whats compatible.

Will this work? Is it a good deal?

What should I be paying attention to to make sure its compatible and its a good deal?

    It's a great deal.
All of the DDR2 SO-DIMM sticks are compatible.
btw, the rebate form states: Limit one (1) rebate per product, per household.

Yes this will work. It's currently the best deal as far as I know. I believe it's limited to one rebate per person, so make sure to have different shipping addresses.

I use the exact same ram in my T61 except that I bought mine in a two pack.

    Excellent quality ram.

You can use any So-Dimm 200-Pin PC2-5300 /667 memory with almost all notebooks
    And they are not refurb.

That sucks. When I ordered the same ram from Newegg with the $20 rebate, the limit is 10 per household.

How about getting 2GB of memory sticks for $100 (they are the same ones Lenovo uses) and are installed for free by an expert? Is this a good deal?

No, IMO Ram is perhaps the easiest hardware to install. As far a quality goes 'Crucial' is the best out there and most likely Lenovo uses the same. You can't go wrong at this price...it's a steal...unless you're lazy to fill out the forms/ can't wait 2 months for it to come.
