Yeah, thinking of picking up an x or t series in Canada. but i have a question about RAM.
one of the models im looking at (x60) is about 1,400 cad for the 1.83ghz Core duo with an 80gb HDD, but it only has 512mb of ram.
my question is, i know i can easily add another stick of 512mb, but can i add a stick of 1gb (1024mb), so the total would be 1536 MB, would this function?
I am also wondering, how do i determine whether the model has the integrated fingerprint reader, i looked in the description and it said nothing either for or without the reader.
PS: is this a good price, any canadians?

This is a really good price for an X60. There's no problem with having one 512MB ram stick and another 1024MB ram stick.
-
Yes it is no problem, plus, the X60's RAM is SO much easier to add/remove. All you do is flip the laptop over and unscrew the plate to get to the RAM. However, for the T60, you have to remove the keyboard and then the palm rest area. to much of an hassle.

The service manual located on Lenovo's site will explain how to upgrade the memory.

Watch out for the specific RAM you buy. Thinkpads, for my X30 at least, is very picky on certain RAM. I bought a Kingston ValueRam and it gave me random BSOD and freezes. I returned the RAM and bought the recomended Kingston RAM (Non-Vaue) RAM.

My T60 came with just 256MB DDR2/667. Then I went for an additional 1GB DDR2/667 (Kingston KTL-TP667/1G) so that the total RAM became 1.25GB, worked no problem. Then I ditched the 256MB for another 1GB after a few weeks so I got a total of 2GB. On a sidenote, just to put the 256MB DDR2/667 to use, I sticked it in a T43 and worked no problem whatsoever, though it's running only at 533MHz...

I can definitely recommend Patriot RAM as I know it works in my X60 without problems.
-
I wasnt really confused with how to installing it, but thanks though
i just was under the incorrect impression that u had to have 256-256, 512-512, 1024-1024 and that you couldnt mix and match like 512-1024.
But thanks for all those replies, btw what does anyone else think of the price? -
I don't want to step on your toes Qhs, but Patriot is one of those brands that's very hit or miss, just a small step above generic. Be careful with Kingston value ram, people have reported problems in T60's.

Anyway, I was leaning toward the Corsair, but the reviews of the Patriot RAM was quite good, newegg reviews, and I saw two users that stated it worked no problem with their X60 and that was the reason I went with Patriot.
