I've heard it is by far the best laptop out there if priced ok.
but it is hard to get. visaperks.ca asks for MORE THAN $4000. are they CRAZY??????

euclid computers sell for $1700US but I guess they do not deliver to canada from US.

then I noticed WHOLE SPECTRUM of features inside T43P and I smelled trouble for unsuspecting buyer:

    IBM ThinkPad T43p 2.13GHz, Model 2668-G3U

    Notebook Lenovo Thinkpad T43p /2668PDU/

    then G2U,

    ... you name it.

and prices anywhere from $1500 to OVER $4000

WHAT GAME IS BEING PLAYED WITH THIS LAPTOP???????

I found seler on ebay, asked question if G3U have fingerprint reader and NO ANSWER.
and here is the spec (THE QUESTION IS: HOW MUCH SHOULD I BID FOR THIS LAPTOP. I am not sure it even has fingerprint reader:

Why not go with the T60? It is much better than the 43, flexview, Core Duo, overall very nice quality. Plus it is the successor to the T line. :) Also, from what I've read, the T43 is know to have a really loud fan.

Dont buy a laptop in the US and have it shipped to canada, unless you wanna pay a ton of duty/tax.

Who says the T43p is the best laptop of all? LOL
The t60 200772u on visaperks is better and costs less than what you're talking about.

I think that little "p" in T43p means something. Now if you compare T60p then you can compare apple with apple. But T43p with T60!?

T43p supposedly, for decent price, is the best laptop out there.
The only other candidate for the title would be I guess T60p but I didn't investigate prices (I assume they are ASTRONOMICAL, as T43p on visaperks.ca IS OVER $4000!)

How did you come to that conclusion? The P means you get a slightly better CPU, hard drive which can be upgraded and graphics card which if you don't need it isn't worth the cost. Might want to look at the 2623D6U. Plus you will get a DVD burner.

The T60 200772u is better than ANY T43 (including the T43p) in every way. Period.

The T60p is in a different league than the T43p. It's like comparing a 2006 corvette to a 1976 corvette.

    Or an abacus (T43p) to a Ti-89 Calculator (T60).

some people swear in some sport cars from 1976, others swear in Hi-Fi devices produced in 70-ies and say todays devices (even from the same company) don't come even close in quality (they go into detailed circuit by circuit comparison in suppot of their claim). they claim that light bulbs should last a lifetime if produced in correct way and not only a month or two.

Experts say that T43P is the best bang for the buck, it's a glitch in quality that will never repeat itself

The graphics card in the t43p is about the only thing different from the regulare t43 which incidently comes with a worse graphics card than the t42
(x300 vs 9600) as far as performance goes if you don't do graphic design work or CAD modeling the regular t60 would probably be better overall with its faster cpu. As an engineer i would go for the t43p however, if I were just doing normal productivity I.e. ms word excel a little photo shop, I would go for the t60. as for a price on the t43p, I can't find it any cheaper than $1700 and if the laptop your looking at is used maybe $1000 max

    What about T30?

I have this price for refurbished one:

IBM THINKPAD 2GHZ LAPTOP NOTEBOOK 2048MB 100GB Combo
    14.1" XGA / Wifi / 2048MB /CDrwDVD/ 100GB HDD/USB

REFURBISHED, warranty 90 days, extended warranty available.

    Price: $900US

Price for T43p on eBay is $1550 (rare). Online it can be bought for $1700US cheapest (>$3000 some merchants!).

Is above T30 deal bad or good?

    T30.................$900
T43p...............$1550 (rare), $1700 (can be found)

So the price of refurbished T30 is 2/3 of the price of refurbished T43p.
    Does it make sense?
Is quality of T30 2/3 of the quality of T43p?
What is better bang for the buck?

    $900 is way overpriced for a T30.

Why are you going backwards? The older the laptop the older the technology. The less likely you will be able to run XP let alone Vista.

I already have DTR HP dv8230ca. It is relatively good except fot the fact it is XP Home and wireless stopped working. I need two reliable Thinkpads, one for kids who are in 5th grade and the other for me and my wife, 13-14" with good batery life, good keyboard, reliable. I've heard T43p works extremely well with Ubuntu, smooth installation, and it is well rounded machine. Since there are 3 laptops involved here I am also money concious. For kids I guess I should go with T23 ebay refurbished one (recently one sold for $250US). In that regard I was thinking about $900 new T30 but it seems not a good price after all. Regarding the remaining laptop, the option is T43p or visaperks T60 14" selling now for $1600CAN (with 512 memory though).
I was thinking to go with IBM wireless card instead of 3945. Anybody had bad experience with Thinkpad 3945 - Linksys WRT54GS - XP wireless combination stop working all of sudden? (it happened to a lot of folks with other laptops, this card and XP - DHCP just stops working, signal strength, router, everything seems to be in good order except client cannot acquire IP address dynamically whatever you do)

Also, if I boost memory on my HP (currently 2 x 512) to 2GB, maybe I could use these two 512MB for other two laptops leveraging my investment (I kind of hope ;)

Which model of T60 are you speaking of? is it 2623D6U?

If you buy anything from ebay and import it from the US, you will get hit with at least 15% taxes plus duty fees.

The thinkpad 802.11b/g card is an Atheros card, and it handily outperforms the Intel 3945. But it draws more battery power.

    yes, 2623D6U

if you buy for your company you'll only pay 6% GST. Duty is much less than 8% PST so with S&H you'll end up paying same amount for these additional fees but with much lower cost of the product (everything in US is cheaper, especially gadgets, plasmas, LCDs, computers, laptops, memory, in fact whoever buys gadgets in Canada he, in all likelyhood, is paying 30% more for the same product than in US). Now, with visaperks.ca there are deals from time to time which are at the same level as best US deals (e.g. costco.com, newegg.com etc.) but only for one or two products. Very rarely you can find better deal in Canada (e.g. Acer 8204 was one of those cases, then Asus laptops same price in both Canada and US) but in general brands like HP, IBM, Sony etc. US deals are always much better than in Canada
