thinking about replacing my current HDD to a bigger one, would it work if I install the new HDD and use a recovery cd????

if yes, would it be just like doing a recovery on my current HDD?

being that this is a new hard drive, it will not have the recovery partion on there already. You will have to burn the recovery dvd's and install them with the optical drive...once this install is done, it will automatically create the recovery partition for future disasters
