Hey,
I was wondering if anyone has gone from Vista (what came with the laptop) and downgraded to XP? I gave it a shot and I'm fed up with all the crashes...Sp1 for vista wouldn't load on my laptop either. Just wondering if anyone has done it and was able to get all the drivers and such and if anyone have any help tipsthanks in advance,

damn should've done some research before hand. my bad. thanks!

Many of us would consider vista to XP to be an UPGRADE!
-
And that assbackwards. Vista to XP is retrogressing in technology. You will find soon less and less of what is available will be available on XP. It is a dead platform.
If you can't get Vista to run on your system, you have either corrupted software or a hardware problem.
I have Vista running on two large systems and it is stable as it can possibly be. -
I have 2 new R61's, an i and an e, both with XP Pro by my choice.
-
I would like to get Vista but I just hear to many bad experiences with it.
I don't think Microsoft will forget the XP people if they have a market that is willing to pay more for it.
I'm looking forward to XP SP3. -
As for Vista, I'm waiting for my college to carry it so then I can fully test it out; I'm not shelling out $99 for an OS.
I've only fiddled with my girlfriend's Dell 1525, which has Vista, and so far it's been excellent for her. 3GB of RAM seems to be the sweet spot. -
My vista suddenly can not boot again yesterday night. It was crashed.
So XP is a good choice at this age. -
Ouch, that sucks!

I used Vista for a while, it worked perfectly (not on a notebook, admittedly) but I went back to XP as it's faster and I cannot find one thing that Vista does better apart from look "cool". Functionally, XP is far superior for how I use my machine.
A lot of people feel this way about Vista and prefer XP for functional reasons.
It's not quite dead yet! -
When the system comes back from hibernation (and even from cold reboot), you have a really responsive system. I have an XP machine with the same specs on work and i wait for some minutes to be able to work again after coming up from hib.
I know that this technology could maybe introduced in XP too but as i see it, if the machine comes with Vista (thus meets the requirements), leave it as it is.
Unless of course, you want Ubuntu but this is another matter... -
I leave my machine on with Firefox open 24/7 so don't get the benefit you mention.
Also there were a few programs I couldn't run in Vista, like Ubuntu.
Maybe I'll try again one day, but for now I'm completely satisfied with XP. -
This is why you boot the system with, let's say, 3GB of Ram and after a while you see 0 left! SupreFetch has put there all programs you frequently use so when you ask for it you instantly have them appear!
I know, it's a trick but is working very well and over time you have a more responsive system! -
Ah I see! I didn't know about that.
Thanks for the info, I'll go look into it!
