what are these update modules for in the thinkvantage upgrade managers? why is thinkpad update making us download these? shouldn't these be taken care of by the windows update?

the reason why im asking is because i finally figured out how to not create any problems . I've noticed many problems occur becuase thinkvantage update and windows update conflict, often resulting in multiple drivers being installed for the same hardware; i think that is the root of all problems related to thinkpads.

so i was curious about if anyone knows what these 'vista update modules' are...thanks

Let me hazard a guess as to why you have no responses.

You begin and end by asking reasonable-enough *noobie* questions. Yet, strangely, twice in your middle paragraph and in the title itself, you claim to have found THE SOLUTION to all Thinkpad woes(!)

With all due respect, there is an obvious logical conflict there, and I think everyone who read it kind of went

    Just my two cents worth.

    Thanks for the comment

however, i was looking to see if anyone else found this to be a problem as well. sorry for the noob questions, but my understanding of drivers is from a noob standpoint

Don't worry about it. You might want to moderate your claims a bit though(!) Or start selling them on ebay...

In regard to your question, I haven't had any driver conflicts at all, but I've so far just ignored all of the Thinkvantage prompts.

I use ThinkVantage update for all hardware drivers and Lenovo SW.

I use Windows Update on Vista for all Windows SW and ignore the hardware on there.

    ^^^^
There are many things I don't know the point of, including that module.

My feeling is, whenever you get a ThinkVantage prompt, promptly ignore it.
