    voiding my lenovo warranty

    If I change out my hard drive on my t61p, will that void my warranty if I somehow break my computer?

    How could you break the computer just by swapping drives?

    In any case, I don't think that it voids your warranty as it is a part that the consumer can upgrade; but, you should check the terms and conditions of your warranty just to be sure, as different manufacturers have different policies.

    @bog - i meant break it as in somehow not being able to get windows to install and unable to use recovery disks for some random reason

    That's not really breaking anything though. Unless you mean breaking the actual hardware, which I doubt would happen. Just be careful and follow the directions when replacing the hard drive.

    I asked Lenovo about this matter when I bought my T61, they said it does not void your warranty on the laptop, but obviously the drive you are about to install won't be covered by Lenovo. The origional drive that came with your Thinkpad, and the laptop itself would still be covered.

    Same goes with RAM.

    They even have manuals of how to replace various, user-swapable parts.
