I've used Intel's migration software (a gimped version of Acronis) to migrate my factory install to a 310 80 gig ssd.

In the bios I took the 500 gig hard drive out of the boot order. The w520 booted from the ssd.

    I've made my recovery disks.

Now I'd like to wipe out all unnecessary partitions and files from the ssd. I'm assuming that I can use Win 7's disk management to get rid of the recovery partition on the ssd. Anything to be aware of in wiping out the recovery partition? Can I get rid of the "System_drv" partition, which takes up about 1.2 gigs?

I'm aware of the importance of changing the swap file to the hard drive, and I'm assuming the hiberfil.sys has to stay on the ssd.

Thanks for help. I apologize if this is addressed elsewhere, but googling into the massive w520 owners thread wasn't successful.

Followup: The above procedure worked, much easier than using restore disks as others have tried.

I don't know if you can delete the SYSTEM_DRV partition, but I was able to shrink it to 450MB and have had no problems. I currently have 50GB of free space on my Intel 310.

Here's something I read on that from Steven Sinofsky, Microsoft engineer.

Swap file and pagefile are same thing.

I just install windows7 on an SSD and let it do it's thing. That's just me tho.

Thanks for the advice. I may decide to put the pagefile back on the ssd after I see how much room I've left after I stuff it with programs.
That's a good idea about shrinking, I'll try it.

I've removed the system restore partition from all initial setups on Lenovo laptops I've ever owned. Usually just backup the C:\ partition & boot record(if needed), then wipe the drive and restore C:\

Never any issues and gets rid of all of that overhead space :)

How did you get rid of the restore partition? Is your system stable?
