    Hi guys,

Ran into a new problem recently and am totally clueless on this one.
    Here's the situation:

I always connect my w530 from mDP to DP on the dell u2711 (native 1440p all fine)
Since a week or 2 I get weird horizontal irregular flickering on the screen.. Not cool.
If I connect from mDP with a HDMI adapter to HDMI on the screen, all goes fine (but maxed out on 1080p.. again not cool)

So I went to exchange the mDP to DP cable. And of course, you can guess, they tested the cable at the store and it worked perfect.
So I was thinking, maybe the DP port on the screen is broken.. Which would be complete weird since I never touched that port before.. (except for plugging in the cable in the beginning ofcourse).
Thus I connected a friends laptop (DP to DP) and everything works.

Now I'm in the market to get a mDP to DVI converter. (since only DP and DVI support 1440p on the dell u2711)
    Good idea or not?

Any tips, hints.. (or maybe a solution) are very much appreceated.

    Thanks in regard.
    Laurent.

oh yeah: all drivers are updated, optimus disabled, dedicated graphics only, etc etc..
oh yeah 2: both the screen and laptop are not under garantue anymore.

Have you tried running it with the Nvidia graphics instead of the processor graphics? Also, do you get the lines on the notebook screen as well? I ask because there might be a hardware problem with your processor graphics.

Is there anything particular that happened around the time when you started to see the lines? Power outage, Windows or driver updates, cord got yanked out harder than normal, etc?

    Nothing in particular no.

    So new update.
Just bought a mDP to DVI adapter and a digital dual DVI-D cable.
First the standard resolution was set to 1680x1050.
Trough the nVidia control pannel I was able to set a 1080p resolution.
But when I tried 2560x1440 the screen just went green..

    Losing my head over this...

Edit: Was able to get a 1440p res but only on 40Hz..

Just to clarify, did you specifically get a mini Display Port to dual-link DVI adapter with the USB plug for power? Because dual-link DVI requires power input, so if you do not have an adapter that provides that power, that could be causing a problem.
