I know primary difference to most people would know is ds means dual screen, which w701 doesnt have it. but I want to know the detailed difference for the machine itself and was wondering if I can get the specific parts (LCD portion) and add a dual screen by myself via simple disassembling and reassembling because I'd think majority of the parts are still the same.

parts required maybe just LCD, extra LCDs 10", brackets for the ds, Back cover and front cover for the ds version, the cables etc..

does anyone know or have tried? i know 700ds to 701ds doesnt work because mobo is different.. and chassis too.

probably the best bet is to buy a broken w701ds with LCD assembly intact on ebay.

it's gotta be pretty rare but it might be the most economical way of doing it.

but seriously though, the extra screen is not that useful. been using w700ds for few years as a desktop at home.

and once the novelty wears off, i hardly ever used it. it's kinda cool to show it to friends every once in a while though :)

man i was hoping someone tried it from w701 to w701ds, it would seem logical to do this although i havent seen the service manual yet in detail. however I briefly went through it it seems to be the same, other than the screen of course.

If someone did, I have yet to hear about it.

If you know Chinese, 51nb forum is your friend. They've done some amazing stuff over there when it comes to ThinkPads.

My question would go along these lines, though:

If you really want a W701DS, why not just buy one and then sell your W701?

judging from the number of w701ds i've seen on ebay, there seems to be very small number of W701s ever made and sold.

w700ds, on the other hand, seems to be easy enough to find one in decent condition.

i guess it depends on how much the OP is willing to spend. he might have to pony up some pretty $$$...

man.. wanted 701ds so bad im gonna go through the manual now and check each part to see if assembling is similar to the point. obviously if only screen is different I can probably make it work.
