    warranty and S/N label

    the S/N label on the bottom of my new x201 is peeling off.

    do I have to keep it on there to keep the warranty? what if it fell off...

    I think the terms say that warranty is void if that label is alternated.

    I don't recall reading anything that it would void your warranty since this happens all the time.

    Also I believe the machine keeps a copy of your S/N in the BIOS anyway.

    as long as the serial no. is in the bios then you should be okay.

    thanks for your response. i used a piece of packing tape to tape it down.

    but they do say this:
    "This warranty is voided by removal or alteration of identification labels on the product or its parts."

    I called and the support said I shouldn't worry about it.

    you didn't remove it or altered it, it worn out. I have couple of laptops that has serial/model no. worn out, because the external case got replaced, and the stickers were removed using heat gun and transferred using rudmentiary method. It was nearly falling off when i got it back, so it didn't take much for it to come off completely.
