I am looking for a sleeve for 14" T61 standard screen.

    can't decide between these three.

    1. 12$ sleeve on ebay - cheapest, but bigger than the T61
    2. 22$ caselogic on neweggs - nice looking, but not snug
    3. 47$ waterfield sleeve - nice, snug, pricey

I tend to buy the waterfield, but ran into this review

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3641&review=Waterfield+SleeveCase

is it true that the waterfield sleeve tends to scratch the laptop? Thinkpad has this rubber cover, which is much easier to get scratched than others.

I have a WF sleeve for my 14.1" T60p. It's worked like a charm. I haven't noticed any scratches whatsoever. I intend to get another for my 15.4" T61p.

which one do you have? the horizontal or the vertical?

did you notice what the reviewer was talking about? i.e. the edge...

    Thanks.

I didn't see anywhere in there article where a laptop was scratched, just the potential for scratching. I'll take a look tonight and let you know.

I've used a Waterfield SleeveCase with my ThinkPad X41 for over a year now. It has caused no scratches or wear at all. I think the reviewer is referring to the seam around the mouth of the sleeve. It doesn't feel scratchy to me.

I've had ThinkPads since 2001, and have found the rubberized black finish incredibly durable. At first I thought it was a bit boring, but quickly realized it's practical advantages (durability, gripability, looks like new even after a couple of years, doesn't show scratches). I have two Sony VAIO laptops, and at the same age, they look trashed.

the rubberized finish is soft. My X60s has a few scratches due to sharp object (cat claws and etc.)

Thanks for sharing your experience with the waterfield sleeve. they are really nice.

    I got a Tucano Neoprene Sleeve for 14-inch Notebooks - $20.

    It's dimensions are 12.6" * 10.2" * 1.38" (which should fit a T61 14.1" SXGA - 12.3" * 10.0" * 1.3")

Took a good look all over my T60p. The WF sleeve hasn't left any scratches. Like I said, I'll be grabbing one for my T61p. Let me know if you get one.

I am trying to figure out which one should I get.

The vertical one or the horizontal one...

I have both messenger bag and backpack...

what if I order 9 cell battery later?

I always get vertical because it keeps the laptop more in line with your body when walking around town (horizontal sticks out more and more likely to get bumped).

If you think you might order the 9-cell battery later, get a SleeveCase sized for the bigger 9-cell battery.

I don't understand why the 14" standard/9cell and the 14" widescreen/7cell share the same sleevecase size. they have quite different length.

I want the vertical one too. even I'll be putting it in either a backpack or a messenger bag, it seems to provide more protection.

I've been using a Waterfield sleeve with my X60s for almost a year. I don't see any scratches, even though the sleeve is a tight fit when I use the eight-cell battery.

Try the Mobile Edge neoprene sleeve. Very Nice. No scratches with it. It also have a zippered pocket in the from to hold your a/c adapter and mouse.
