r61 14.1" has roll cage in lid

    r61 15.4" no roll cage

Wonder why they're leaving it off of the 15.4", same generation?

If you're going bottom of barrel specs/options, not a hole lot divides the R and T now. Same cooling system supposedly, has the roll cage in the lid, just a bit thicker. Then again not much divides the price either.

Z series pretty much absorbed by T, looks like R will as well.

edit: wonder if, since no roll cage on the 15.4 version, if it still has the magnesium lid cover?

Might be since it has more room between the lid and panel there is not as much of a concern for it protecting the LCD. The smaller laptop though has tighter clearances, and not using the roll cage might result in much easier damage.

"A new cooling system, larger vents and more efficient fans make R61 the coolest and quietest R Series model ever. And the new Top Cover Roll Cage (14.1" widescreen models) combines with the ThinkPad Roll Cage and Shock-Mounted Hard Drive to provide a new level of strength and durability."

jic that's ambiguous (since they didn't expressly state that it's not available on the 15.4"; only that the 14.1" does), in the features chart above the text, it has the "not available" symbol for the 15.4" r61, and "standard" for 14.1" r61 (also turbo memory not available on 15.4" r61, optional on 14.1").

Wow. For an even wider screen, I'd think they'd be more likely to add the lcd cage. Shame.

I noticed that a couple weeks ago and I made a thread on it though I can't find it. It's weird. I was considering a R61 15" too until I saw that.
