Just curious to know what type of ram and harddrive you guys got in your T61's and T60's(meaning which manufacturer). I would assume that the harddrive would be manufactured by hitachi since IBM sold their HD business off to them.

1GB Samsung module came with mine. I just ordered a 2GB Patriot stick from newegg for $109 after rebate.

What about the HDD? I'm going to sell the one I get and I'd like to write an auction up for it.

My T60 came with a 160GB 5400RPM Hitachi HDD and the RAM it came with is a 1GB Samsung module. Added a 2GB stick of Corsair (Micron chips) a little while after I got the notebook.

Hoping for the 200GB 7200RPM drives to come down in price/become available soon! :D

I don't think Lenovo uses only Hitachi drives though, it probably wouldn't be very cost effective.

Thanks I saw that as well after another member said they purchased the same ram I bought from newegg for $85 and free shipping at outpost. The link is down.

I might get the OCZ mem if the Patriot mem is unavailable. I'm going to call newegg tomorrow and see if they'll do a price match. They're pretty good about that sort of stuff. If not i'll just cancel or refuse my order.

thanks for the info everyone. reason why i asked is because i got 1gb ram(single dimm) with my laptop and would like to match the second dimm with an identical stick. I know its somewhat pointless, but i'm just anal i guess lol.

as for lenovo using hitachi drives, if they're still using the ibm name, its definitely gotta have a hitachi in it. the 3000 series probably use something cheaper.

I think they use Fujitsu and Samsung also, depending on speed.

But my memory could be playing tricks on me so I'm not a 100% sure of this.

You could run cpu-z that should tell you or remove the palm rest cover and then you'll see for sure what memory was installed. That's how I found out it was Samsung memory in my laptop.
