I just finally got my T400 and I want to get rid of the stuff i dont need on it. I know doing a clean install would be the best solution but i just dont have the time nor patience right now to dive into that. I currently have a REDICULOUS 105 processes running after i power on my computer. Anyone know which ones i can remove? Also, what programs can i remove that come on the T400. I know mcafee antivirus has an icon on my desktop but it doesnt look like it is aactually installed... any suggestions on how to make my copmuter as clean as possible at this point?

Go through Add/Remove Programs (or whatever it's called in Vista, I forget), and just remove anything that doesn't look like it is needed, if you are unsure, put up a list and I will go through and mark the ones that are safe to remove.

Heres the list from programs that I am unsure of:
Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 SP1
Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components (office 2003 isnt even on here...)
Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
Microsoft office small business connectivity components
Microsoft SQL server 2005
Microsoft SQL server 2005
Microsoft SQL server setup support files
Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer
MSXML 4.0 SP2
PC Doctor 5 for Windows
Viewpoint media player
also, here is a list i found in msconfig of some of the startup services. can i uncheck any of these?
Digital Line Detection - Avanquest Software
Client Security Solution - Lenovo Group
BLOG - Unknown
Drag to Disc - Roxio
CameraApplicationLaunchPadLauncher - Unkown
Message Center - Lenovo
Scheduler_proxy Application - Lenovo Group
Thinkpad EasyEject Utility - Lenovo Group
CameraMonitor Application - Sonix
Presentation Director - Lenovo Group
Synaptics Pointing Device Driver - Synaptics -
I removed something called Thinkvantage Access Connections when it began to show some error every 20 seconds..Would that be a problem??????

"I solved the error. I simply uninstalled Lenovo Access Connections. I might put it back on my laptop later but right now i gotta figure out what Lenovo software i need to keep and what i need to remove."

You can remove the SQL server stuff if you don't host SQL-based sites on your machine.
I would leave the Office components on there, they tend not to run in the background and you never know if you might need them later.
PC Doctor is a support program installed by Lenovo to help you find a solution to problems, if you think that it won't help you much, you might as well get rid of it, it's the kind of thing that is likely to be a pain in the ***.
Viewpoint, from Wikipedia, is "a web browser plug-in that enables users to view 3D content and other rich media, such as Flash content and video, on the Internet. Viewpoint Media Player is included with AOL Instant Greetings, AIM Themes and some other web applications. Viewpoint Media Player is distributed with AOL, AIM, versions of Netscape, certain Adobe products, and some retail computers sold today."
If you aint going to use the Roxio Drag-to-Disc, you can uncheck that from msconfig. Everything else I'm not so sure on what they are, except the Synaptics touchpad driver, which is needed for the touchpad to work properly -

Is Lenovo Camera Center a driver of an application? It seems like that program is useless but I was not sure if it includes the driver. I think you could delete Access Help and Help Center.
In my opinion, I think PC-Doctor is pretty handy program. I tried running some tests. I thought that it was pretty neat program.
And isn't EasyEject same as the USB ejecting feature that Windows come with?
What is MSXML 4.0 SP2?
I'm thinking of leaving most of the ThinkVantage program, but disable them from startup, instead of getting rid of all. -
There's an option to do custom factory install, which you could install only programs you need. So it's sort of like a clean install. I tried full factory recover today and it took less than 15 minutes or so.

do thinkpads have a recovery partition like dells do? it would be nice if they did.

what can i remove from my T400?
