I read on the forums that you can use different deals such as credit cards or EPP to lower price or other promotions. I was wondering what methods did everybody on this forum use to lower their price.

I'm thinking about buying one of the T60.

I purchased mine through Boston University's computing website: www.universitycomputing.com I do not attend BU, but was able to get the deal by proving that I am a full-time student. At the time a T60 for 1300 was a fantastic deal. -_-

I'm a SUNY alumni and I got the EPP pricing from the suny alumni page. That offer seems to have ended though.

hmm, I'll be attending Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, so I wonder what kind of discount I might get. I know the school offers pre-configured thinkpads at the school, but the offers honestly isn't good at all (maybe it'll be better this year)

I'm a SUNY student @ Binghamton, have a MasterCard, Visa and Discover Card . I've searched high-and-low for these special discounts but I can't find them. Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dave

After much searching and many second thoughts I finally purchased a laptop. A Z61t to be exact. After reading this thread I was interested in the VISA or Discover Card deals that were mentioned before.

After going to the VISA website (no sign on required) I found a link to a deal that was $90 off plus other discounted accessories but I was still limited to the topsellers listed on that website. The warranties were actually more expensive this route than the normal online offering. I then called a sales rep and asked a few questions and one of those was to check on the price on a specific config if I purchased with my VISA.

I ended up with this config for $1529 which is normally $1799 - 9440AMU:
    • 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200
    • 2GB RAM
    • 120GB hard drive
    • DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM
    • 10/100/1000 Ethernet
    • Bluetooth 2.0 EDR
    • WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (draft)
    • fingerprint reader
    • Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
    • 14.1" WXGA

This config was $1709 from the VISA website link (versus $1799 on lenovo.com), but a few different sales reps quoted $1529 with the "other VISA" discount. Office products and accessories were also discounted. I opted for none but there is a good deal to be had. From my conversations there was two different discounts offered by even mentioning VISA, so I took advantage of the better one of course.

My quick advice - call with a specific config # in mind and ask about any discounts if you were to use your VISA. It went from $1799 to $1709 to $1529.

    Good luck!

I called the toll free 866-96-think. I spoke to a Chris first and he had to search for the deals. He asked me if I had any specific configs in mind and I gave him the one above. He found the 1709 deal first but right after he told me that he corrected himself and said 1529. He never returned my message so I called someone else on the toll free number.

Another rep that I spoke with last week asked me to call back later that day for whatever reason. So they are not all on the same page. All three reps I spoke with asked if I was a VISA employee and I am not, just using my VISA to make a purchase.

I ended up dealing with a Michael that was based in the Toronto,Canada office because he was the most helpful with all of my questions.

    Thanks for the info.

Do you have extention numbers for them? or just call 866 number and got random connected to the individual?

An additional discount above and beyond the Visa? Did you stack discounts? They told me already discounted machines (EPP and Visa I presume as well) cannot be stacked with additional discounts (like a student special).

Deodeo - I called the toll free and got a different individual three times. I did get an extension for the two reps who confirmed the deal. And one asked me to call back. Weird. I assume you are going to call in, so let me know how you fair and see if I can give you any more info to help you out. Michael was the last guy I spoke to and you can reach him at x32599. I think you need to dial a different number to get a prompt to enter an extension, so try 866-428-4465.

Momo26 - I did not stack discounts from my knowledge. The link from the VISA website gives me the toll free number to EPP (according to the recorded voice) even though I did NOT call that number, I called 866-96-think. I just simply asked for discounts on a specific config and if I used my VISA. The above config just happened to be the first one I gave him to price out, it actually was not the config I was most interested in - I was going for something less in the beginning.

You were saying "other VISA" discounts (different prices than the VISA site) so I wasn't sure if the reps were adding discounts in addition to the already discounted VISA prices, to entice you to purchase.

The reason you ended up with a better price is because you reached a Lenovo Canada sales rep. In Canada, we have a visaperks program where Topseller selections are 5% off regular price, and non-topseller selections are 15% off. That is why your purchase received a 15% discount.
