I used this guide to perform a clean install on my brand new t61p

now what should I install/do next?

I've already installed avast!, vlc media player, firefox 3, and avg antivirus.

Any other suggestions of programs that may be useful/help protect my computer/make it faster?

    Any help is appreciated.

I recommend you download SUPERAntiSpyware. It's a very good anti-malware scanner (IMO, better than Ad-Aware and Spybot). Also download JKDefrag to defragment your computer. No installation required. The built-in Vista defragmenter is poor.

Anything else you need is pretty much up to you.

For the ThinkVantages Tools I only use Driver Protection, Power Manager and the UltraNav Wizard.

There's lots of good free software. Did you check out the sticky in the software forum?

I love the Access Connection(From the thinvantage suite of programs) software for hooking up to the internet. I found the one built into Vista to be very poor and unusable for my needs.
