    I don't understand.

why lenovo is able to reach 15 - 30 hours with sandy bridge.

while, apple macbook pro can only last 7 hrs. which is shorter than the older platform?

in the 13" model, they even ditch the discrete video card...

LCD panel is likely more power efficient.

Most of the Lenovo battery claims, while potentially exaggerated, are based on extended batteries, whether it be 9 cell or an additional slice.

I'd imagine both the MBP13's and the T420's panels have about the same power usage - they are using the same technology (LED-backlit TN display), while one is slightly larger and one is slightly brighter.

It's hard to say until we get full specifications and detailed looks at the internals of both laptops, but one possibility is that Apple decreased the battery size in the latest MBP13. Another thing to consider is that Lenovo's 9-cell battery has a pretty high Wh rating: 94 Wh. The additional 9-cell that boosts the battery life to a theoretical 30 hours is also 94 Wh, I believe.

So, in short, hard to say until we get a closer look at both machines, but I doubt it has to do with the LCD.

Apple has a more vigorous test for battery life now. The old model Macbook Pros didn't get the claimed battery life usually. 7 hours was more realistic for the old models and new ones.

Lenovo misquoted the battery life in the press releases, it should be 12 hours for the 9 cell T420, and 8 hours for the 6 cell. The battery life on the Macbook Pro 13 inch is comparable to the 6 cell T420, and both have a 60ish Wh battery. So Apple claims 7 hours and Lenovo claims 8 hours, in the end they might get the same battery life. The 30 hour number was if you had the slice battery and the 9 cell both together.

Lenovo claims lower battery life for the T520, since it consumes more power but uses the same size battery. The Macbook Pro 15 inch has a more beefy 73 Wh battery so it gets somewhat similar battery life to the 13 inch even though it has a bigger screen.

Lenovo doesn't have an updated 17 incher but Apple's 17 inch uses even more power and uses an even beefier battery, 94 Wh.

Yeah Im figuring a t420 with that battery setup. All it needs now is a 1080p WLED screen, quad core and intel/ati switchable.

Anyone know if they fixed the draining ultrabays first problem or at least will? That would make the bay battery ALOT more useful.

It didn't. Apple just changed their testing methods. Look out for the real world battery life, tested by people outside of Apple (like here on NBR)

maybe. The quad cores are way more efficient now, but I'm not sure about the dual cores. It might have more to do with what GPU Lenovo used, and the fact that Optimus is now in all the discrete GPU machines.

I think Lenovo might have tweaked the system settings and such to get their better battery life. I know they've put out some improvements in the Power Manager.

Wouldn't it be more convenient to have two normal batteries (and a separate small battery charger connected to the AC power supplier)?
