with apple notebook, usually if the notebook's battery is below 5% the notebook immediately go to sleep whatever im doing at the time.
with thinkpad or any other PC notebook, what will happen during a low charge?
i hit 10% on my X300 and nothing happens.

My T400 sounds an alarm that's (likely) similar to that of TMI-1 at Three Mile Island.
On the two occasions it has done so, I've urgently sought an AC adapter and apologized to the notebook for upsetting it.

don't all windows notebooks go into hibernation?

will i be able to wake the laptop again afterwards? like turn it on via the power button if it shut down/hibernating.
i tried this on my macbook pro, and it wouldn't wake up, which is good. i wonder if this is the same on windows laptop too. -
On Thinkpads, you can set what the notebook does on 5%/10% battery in the lenovo power manager.
-
thanks pepclub.
yeah i think i saw it a while ago, while messing/exploring around my computer.
on default. whats the setting usually be?
my system is vista business, thinkpad x300. -
ah just found out from power manager,
the default is (which is what i got right now):
at low battery [10%] warning notification
at very low battery [05%] warning alarm, hibernate.
something like that. or was it 10% that is warning alarm... hmmm... forgot
anyway i wonder if on very low battery left, like 5-10% (battery light is orange) would the laptop be able to start up from shutdown? -
yeah, but that's about it. However if you put it in hibernation then you're safe till you reach a power source, and if you put it into sleep mode then you've probably got almost another 1 - 2 hours before it reaches 0%
what happens on low battery?
