    I looked in this guide:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/7463333-post65.html
    Very well made and thorough.

So here is what i think i need to install the msata:
    external dvd drive
    couple of blank dvd discs
usb flashdrive (to save the drivers in)
do i need a screw?(the screw that secures the msata component in place)

Anything else? its a clean install so i wouldn't have to worry about aligning or anything right? the guide teaches how to install the remaining thinkpad programs

I would rather use the hardware maintenance manual provided by Lenovo. Plenty of illustrations that takes you step by step through the process of accessing the slot. Pretty foolproof if you just follow instructions.

You'll need a thin phillips screw driver for the entire process. The screw to keep the drive in place is already there.

If you are installing a clean copy of windows 7, you can make a USB bootable image (forgoing the need for DVD drive) using Microsoft's own USB to DVD tool and a Windows 7 image.

In terms of drivers, I would just install either the WLAN or Ethernet driver, then use system update for everything else, that way it ensures that the software and drivers are installed in the correct order.

If you are doing a clean installation, there should not be alignment problems.

Or if you you'd like to see a video of the physical installation process, have a look here (at the WWAN video, which uses the same slot):
