From the photos, it looks like you'll need the bottom chassis assembly and possible the hinges (I couldn't tell if they were damaged.)

IIRC, the X60 and X61 series are generally compatible. The only exception would be the IR port on the palmrest FRU -- the X61 series palmrests won't have a space for this.

This is off the top of my head though, and it's been a while since I've worked on one of the X6x ThinkPads, so you might want to grab the HMM and double check before you purchase replacement parts. :D

I would second this; definitely the bottom chassis and possibly the LCD hinge as well. You may need a new palmrest assembly; it's really hard to tell from the pictures if it's damaged or not.

The X6x is pretty straightforward to take apart, but definitely study the HMM before starting the repair. As ThinkRob said, the X61 base should fit(I put an X61 motherboard in an X60 chassis, and I'm pretty sure that the X61 palmrest will fit if needed. The palmrest design is a bit different to accommodate a secondary fan mounted under the TrackPoint buttons on WWAN-equipped X61 systems. I think the wires in that side of the chassis are for both the WWAN and WLAN; on these systems the WWAN and WLAN cards are right next to each other(right side of the palmrest). It's been a little while since I've opened up an X60/1, so I'm a little rusty with that model.

X60 and X61 palmrests aren't interchangeable without swapping the LCD latch assembly and LCD bezel due to the latches being in different locations.   if you swap those then you need a new LCD cable to get the thinklight to line up.   it's both cheaper and easier to buy the correct parts in the first place... and in this case that would require an X60 palmrest.

be sure.   don't be pretty sure. ;)

Thanks for all the answers, but why would I need a palm rest? Even in the worst case it is just a small crack, which is easily fixable with a tiny drop of superglue. The base on the other hand is a structural element, so I want to replace it properly.

Is it possible to replace the base with an X61 one and use everything from this model? "Thinking-World" on ebay sells the same base FRU for both X61 and X60 base.

I hope it means I can replace the base and use everything else as it is (I will decide the hinges when I disassembled.)

Uh... Some of them are. They have to be... I mean... I remember putting a X61 FRU on X60 before, and the only issue I encountered was the IR port. Maybe I just lucked out or something?
