    Yep, magnesium-alloy. X200/201s is carbon-glass fiber.

is it really? or do you mean the internal roll cage thing?

i mean to ask the outer case, on the bottom side. is that black painted metal (like the RAM cover certainly is)? Either that or the plastic used is way way harder than the other thinkpads because I was pressing on his x201 with a little gap and there was no noticible bending at all. If that was any other thinkpad plastic there will be bending, which leads me to wonder if the bottom case on the X201 is metal like the RAM cover is on the X201?

It also has a metal roll cage for the lid right? but the metal roll cage is covered by a plastic cover first right?

The bottom part of the chassis for the X200/X201 series is magnesium alloy. The X200s/X201s use magnesium alloy for the entire base as well.

The top cover material depends on the screen. The WXGA models have magnesium alloy covers while the WXGA+ X200s has a carbon-fiber reinforced cover with side walls made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic.

The "roll cage" is a bit of a misnomer. There is no metal endoskeleton like the T61/T400/T500 used. Instead, the cover itself is responsible for protecting the LCD.
