I think this is a useful question for people like me, who don't want to mess with a clean reinstall and tend to keep the thinkvantage feature.

I've already removed PC-Doctor and google picasa...

My T61 boots up very slow. Any way to improve that? I tried to block some programs that start up with windows. It doesn't really help a lot.

btw, will vista power setting affect/overrule thinkpad power management tool settings? for example, I can change the LCD brightness on battery of 'energy star' scheme from 15/15 to 5/15 using vista power settings. But it doesn't really work as I expected. it's still at full brightness, as set in thinkvantage.

I thinik the user security thing is very slow. I dont know really, I just did a clean install and added things that made sense to me. It was easier than finding things I dind't need that I didn't know about it.

You can still reinstall the Thinkvantage SW after a clean install, see the clean install guides.

I hate to tell you this, but a clean install would really help you. If you really don't want to go that way, search for "vista tweaks" in the Windows forum and also Google it. You'll find pages and pages of Vista tweaks that will help speed up your system. Many people report 30-second boots after cleaning up the Vista startup.

Ok, I'll throw you a bone:
