I have been using my e420s for 2 days now and have had no issues. And about 30 mins before posting this thread I heard a sound coming from my HDD. it sounded like the 'read/write head' is hitting against something. And it happens EVERY 5 SECONDS. I rebooted the laptop but it hasn't stopped.

Can any one tell me what could be wrong?

The Hitachi in my e220s does that all the time. It seems to be par for the course.

But its hasn't been doing that for 2 days though. Did yours have the issue out of the box or did it seem to appear from no where?

I don't recall the early days, but it's been going on for 50 days or so without any other symptoms of anything.

    Sounds normal to me....

Wouldn't hurt to run HDTune or like program.

What drive is it? Sometimes going to the latest firmware can eliminate excessive vibration/clicking. Also try QuietHDD and fiddle with AAM/APM settings.

Where to find the firmware version? All I can find is driver details.
