    Hi
    I'm deciding between two laptops
    x61 offers 12.1 XGA STD
x61s offers 12.1 XGA ultrabright TFT

I was wondering what's the difference between STD and TFT besides the battery consumption, so screen quality-wise

The distinction they're trying to make is between the ultrabright model and the standard model.

TFT is an established technology for LCD screens. Back in the late 90's laptops would come with either TFT displays or passive displays, which were cheaper but inferior. Today, all displays are TFT.

I can understand your confusion from those options, however.

    its you!

so the only thing I should expect from TFT is that it's brighter than x61's STD

Any viewing angle supriority in TFT? Any other thing I should be aware of?

    Hey!

They're both TFT screens. You're looking at either a normal screen or an ultrabright screen (both are TFT screens as are all other laptop displays).

My guess is that the "ultrabright" display is just that, brighter. Unfortunately a brighter screen doesn't necessarily translate into better viewing angles so you may not have much to gain from such a panel.
