I'm from China. I'm 19. And my English is poor.....
But I will try my best to express myself.

I have a friend in the USA, and I want him to bring a T61 to me.
But he is not able to get online.
So he has to go to stores to buy a T61...

so what's the lowest price of T61 at stores such as Bestbuy?
    I have $1,200 . Is it enough to buy a T61 (14-inch widescreen, discrete graphics, 6 cell Li-Ion Battery )?

    for example
    on the lenovo website
    the original price $1294
    the sale price $984

then will the price be as high as $1294 at stores?

    Thank you very much~ :D

I have seen thinkpads at best buy before, but I dont recall seeing the T61...i have seen the X61 and T60 though.

They usually sell for close to retail there.

you're probably going to pay full retail for them, can't say i've seen any t's "on sale" unless they were a floor samples. you'll have to search for the exact configuration you're after but they do have some with discrete graphic cards like this one.
you can look and see if the BB near your friend has a Best Buy for Business Center in the store near him/her.

micro center also carries some thinkpads but i can't remember which models i saw at the store.

I was at a Best Buy for Business Center not too long ago. I saw no ThinkPads.

I was at a Best Buy earlier this evening and didn't see any either. I did see machines from Dell, Velocity Micro, Apple, Sony, HP, Compaq, Gateway and eMachines. Actually, I've never seen a Lenovo machine for sale in any genuine non-cyberworld store, but would like to see one.

Me neither. Of course, I always previously assumed that was just the case because I live in the middle of no-where.

But then, their web site doesn't have any either.

I've not seen Thinkpads in BestBuy either. However, I saw a T60 15.4" on display in my local Circuit City early last year. As of now, I think Office Depot offer some Thinkpads with some configs even listed as "Office Depot Exclusives." I could be wrong though...

We should go on a hunt for them, Spaceman. They can't remain hidden from us. [IMG]

Acturally,I just want to know the rough price of T61?
If it is too dear to buy in stores, then maybe I will buy one in China,of couse a smuggled one.

Best buy usually does not carry t61's, and even if they do it's likely to be more expensive than what you would pay from the lenovo website. If your friend lives close to a big city I'm sure there are other computer stores that do sell them, but again they'll be pretty expensive.

I think your best bet would be to tell your friend to buy you a pre-made model from a website that could be shipped to him within a 3-4 days.

websites like buy.com have a good amount of pre-made configurations to choose from.

I was at Circut City a few days ago, and they had a Lenovo R61 on display there (with a few buttons missing off the keyboard I might add) for about $1200 (it had 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive @ 5400RPM, Windows Vista Basic, etc.) . Which, IMO is way too high with that configuration.

    I think so.
But I'm not sure if he will succeed in paying the money by using a Visa applied in China..

    (Can you understand me?)

As long as it's Visa, Mastercard, or Amex, most companies don't care where the bank is located.

like MikesDell, I also saw a R61 at circuit city the other day. It was a cheap one, about $750. The specs are bare minimum. I don't think it was a C2D. I should've paid more attention to it. I say you're better off buying it online

    Thanks very much.
I'll tell him to try it.

I also worry about the nVidia 140M, is it able to run WAR3?

Could you please tell us if you succeded in getting the system. I was planning a trip to the US to visit my relatives and buy a T61p, i wanted to order it from home and have it delivered to my relatives in advance, this has proven to be impossible so far, so i was thinking i'd buy one 'over the counter'. Now, this seems to be impossible as well.

I assumed the standarized 'Topseller' models would be retail units, but it seems from the discussion that Thinkpads are simply not stocked at retail computer outlets.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Roberto

I prefer not to use someone else's credit, even if family. It seems so far to be either that or to give up on a T61 and order a Dell XPS 1530, sold locally at a very reasonable price.
