Hey guys, looking for a new thinkpads t series, but i got a question for ya.

Im waiting at least for the core 2 duo refresh (whenever that is)

But what im really wondering about is whether i should wait till they release a thinkpad with vista installed. I was thinking of waiting until Thinkpads have all their utilities ported over to vista.

    What would you guys say

That may be till next year. If you need a notebook now, buy it now and upgrade later.

Personally, Merom should be pretty straightforward. I've heard rumors about October/November so that doesn't seem too long. Vista may take quite a bit longer. Probably Q1 2007 and even longer for full Lenovo integration. The leap from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo is not a major architecture change so the transition should be very smooth. Vista on the other hand has potential to have a lot of conflicts and early problems especially with drivers.
I realize some people like to be the first on the block to have the latest and greatest but with an operating system I personally think it might be better to adopt Vista after a service pack or about a year after launch. Let all the early adopters work the major bugs and security flaws out.
My recommendation is to get a laptop now and then in two years, upgrade to a Santa Rosa/Vista laptop.

I second that! You'll have to wait a long while if you want a smooth Vista running on your notebook. I can't wait 'til lenovo makes a widescreen t60.
