i'm buying a new SSD(7mm) but my X220 did not come with neither metal casing(7mm) nor rubber rail(7mm).

    where can i buy those?

if i call lenovo and beg for those, would they send one to me?

Your original installed HDD didn't have a tray or rails?

nope. it came with bare SSD drive, with 4 screws (but no tray), and two pieces of cheap-looking plastic rail (again, not the usual rail that's made out of rubber-like material)

Looking in the maintenance manuals, it looks like this is normal if your computer was configured with a ssd out of the factory. The protective steel shim/tray and thick rubber bumpers are only used for HDDs.

ebay. Poke around a bit, as there are usually many 'lot sizes' of tray/rubber rail combo auctions out there.

I bought something like a 10 or 20 lot combo package a while ago, and it's nice just reaching into the box whenever I buy a new bare bones drive.
