    hi everybody

i'm a college student and i decided to purchase a thinkpad. the thing is they are kinda expensive. i would love to keep the price under $1300-1350. i won't be doing much gaming, maybe half-life 2 sometimes.

i went to the website and configured some t60's. maybe the t series is not right for me. i want 1 gb ram, around 80 gb hard drive, and at least 1.83 core 2 duo processor. it should be 14 inch screen.

which thinkpad do you recommend for me? are there any deals out? thanks for your time.

Have you looked at R60? It's certainly cheaper than T60. I have R60, and I've never had any other Thinkpad before so it is hard for me to compare. But R60 seems very solid. It is quiet, cool and fast. I would have bought T or X if I had loads of money. But for the price I paid for my R60, I am very happy with the machine.

    I think you'd like a T60 14".

While I do agree with Spoon, I doubt you will be able to buy a T60 with those components for $1350 without receiving a major discount by some means. If you want to buy from Lenovo, I would recommend the R60. It is the T60's "younger brother" in the sense that it is almost identical to it expect for three things: size (the R60 tends to be thicker), build quality (the R60's build quality is slightly lesser than that of the T60), and price (the R60 tends to be much cheaper).

    Good luck,
    Matt

Mturco, check out deodeo's first link. Comfortable specs under $1350. Has everything required except Half Life may be a stretch on the X1300.

Lol, I guess that does qualify as I major discount. Sorry, I didn't see those links. Great deal though, go for it!

The first link is a good seller, which is the computer department of Boston U. And you don't have to be a student there.

I have a ThinkPad very similar to the one linked from university computers (see sig). I like it a lot.

I saw an R60 floating around in meeting rooms, it is well built despite it is the lowest rank of the thinkpad. I think R series is the best 4 u to get the thinkpad quality with a more reasonable price.
