i have a Ibm lenovo T60p i got it at the beginning of the year and it started off great it has intel duo 2.33ghz, 2 gigs ram, and a Ati FireGL V5250. This laptop is supplied to the students that attend my college.

let me say this when i got it this laptop was awesome it ran great. Over a few months it has gone to hell. i never ran a benchmark when it was new but i can tell u guys that when i played Wow on it at first i never went below 35 fps and most the time it ran at 50-60 fps. now im looking at 15-25 fps.. i got 3dmark06 and my score was 1667. which is just horrible.

why is it so slow now?

Probably a lot of crap programs have been installed on your computer making it slow down because of the other applications it is running in the background.

i went through and ended and cleaned house on it. its clean and still runs slow. When i go update my drivers which i think might be the problem ati doesn't recognize the video card. Could it be that windows is updating without the video card drivers? if anyone find drivers for this card i will be in shock and ow

Back up your files and try a factory restore. Just cleaning up applications won't be able to remove the spyware if you got any on there. In my experience, universities is a hotbed of spyware activity since there is so much software "sharing" going on.

You need to get the video driver from Lenovo either via the Support & Download site or the ThinkVantage System Update utility.

Is the recovery partition still on the system? Can you get into it by pressing the blue ThinkVantage button when the computer is booting up? If you can then you can do a factory recovery without the recovery discs.

If your school is managing the computer, see if they will reimage the system.

Also note that even if you don't get recovery CD's, your system probably has the utility to make the recovery disc set installed. Check your ThinkVantage programs to see if the utility to create the discs exists, and if so, burn a set to CD or DVD.

the softwares that installed on this laptop would be responsible for your laptop to slow down. i would advice you just back you data and just do a factory reinstallation.

you know something when i was attending St. Johns University i was also given a thinkpad R51. it was my first one. and i loved it. but it slowed down and it had alot of restrictions on it. like admin and re-installing the operating system. well you know something i just replaced the HD. so i can reinstall the operating system you can do that. if your school restricts you.

Another tip would be to download JkDefrag and defragment your computer. I have compared it to the default Windows Defragmenter and it is many times better. I even defragmented with the Windows one only to have JkDefrag it back.

The difference I see between the two defragmenters is that the Windows one does not organize everything to the beginning of the the HDD, where everything is much faster. Instead it disperses defragmented files all over HDD. JkDefrag will optimize your HDD and organize it to the beginning.

Of course this probably won't result in a great boost of speed but it should help you along somewhat depending on the amount of files on your system.

All windows systems have defragmenters that should at lest get you to the point that fragmentation is not an issue.

Have you looked at the Task Manager? Is the cpu time being consumed or is it the disk?

well its not a disk. and yes i have looked at task manager there is a ton of crap that my school has put on. i end the usless one that i dont need but there is this huge one Rtvscan.exe i dont know what it does... i dont wanna break anything.

i can say this tho i did hit my ThinkVantage button and get the updates one of which was for my video card and some others. My comp is much smoothers. Wow now runs awesome well better than it was. about 25 flying around in shatt (on a high pop server) and besides there around 40-60fps.

OMG your problem is almost exactly like one of my MCP 270 study guide questions:
I'm not suggesting you to do this though

But the reason why this could work is because after a whole bunch of software is installed an removed, they may leave behind a lot of useless registry entries that could impact performance. Rolling back to a previous state that does not have these performance inhibiting registry entries would work in this case. This may apply to you. But rolling back to a very early state may break some applications that you've installed after then.
