I having a hard time deciding what computer to buy. I would like a T60 because of build quality, battery time, screen, and security. But sometimes i'd like to play a bit, but I have serious doubts that the fire gl plays bf2 which I tend to like. If some could help me with this question will be very thankful. Otherwise I have to look into the world of ASUS and the x1600 card, but then suffer for lack of battery time, a over glossy screen and something less sturdy i.e portable

    regards

The FireGL is based off of the X1600, though it is a workstation card, tailored to business use mainly CAD, it will also play games fine. It's more powerful then the X1400 in gaming performance, and the X1600 is about 2x as good as the X1400. The FireGL falls almost directly in the middle between those according to benchmarks.

The X1400 will play any game out there, albeit the newest will have to turn down settings a little bit lower, they play fine, so since the v5200 is better than it, you shouldn't have a problem.

Thank you very much, i'm closing in, but one more question though, do i have to change the GPU driver or could I use the default drivers

You could use the default drivers and I'm sure it'd work fine, however updating or changing to better ones would be ideal. It's entirely optional though.

The default drivers are ISV-certified and tested to work with workstation software. However they are not optimized for gaming and frequently will run into problems with DirectX based games, including many visible bugs. To play games without these bugs the workstation-optimized driver should be replaced with a modified version of the original Catalyst drivers. i.e. the Omega drivers. The original Catalyst drivers won't work with notebook graphics cards.

Are omega drivers provided by ATI. Could I run into warranty problems if I change these into omega. ??

Omega drivers are modified ATI drivers made by enthusiasts. They will not void any warrantys, though.

The t60 with x1400 is not available i Norway, you have to do with x13oo or the fire Gl 5200. That's a pity. I have also considered the z61M, with x1400but it has not yet arrived the country, and I have to order today !!
    thx

Just FYI: installing the omega drivers on my T60p (with the FireGL v5200) increased my 3Dmark05 score by about 10%. I've been playing Oblivion on medium-ish settings without any problem.

That's very good news, I do not know how demanding Oblivion is in terms of graphic, but it is a quite new game isn't it? I have ordered the T60 today, I found very few other relevant options, so gaming possibilities are definitly a huge bonus.
    Thx

Hehe, thats amusing, :), "I do not know how demanding Oblivion is in terms of graphic." It is THE demand, as far as I know the most demanding game to date, and more or less only works for people because it is not an FPS, so dropping below 30fps (I never noticed that double meaning before, fps) is tolerable. More or less my requirements for any system that I build or buy, be that it can run Oblivion decently in the native resolution of the screen in the most demanding areas of the game at medium settings. I'm not sure if the V5200 meets that requirement, much less an X1600. I'm familiar with a desktop A64 system with a GeForce6800 that fails on these requirements. I'm excited though-- I really want a T60!
