    You may be able to buy set of recovery discs from Lenovo. If they're still offering them for the R40, I've no idea if they do, they run about $45. Sometimes they people sell recovery discs for older machines in the Marketplace forum on ThinkPads.com, usually for less than Lenovo charges. Otherwise what he said.
